Middle School Overview
Acellus online middle school courses cover the core subjects of mathematics, language arts and reading, science, and history and social studies. Students can also begin exploring foreign languages and cultures, as well.
The Acellus team collaborates with some of the best middle and junior high school teachers in the country to develop the online middle school curriculum. Each lesson includes engaging videos and interactive coursework, which pique the interest of students and ignites excitement around their classes.
Prism Diagnostics™ identifies deficiencies in a student’s academic background and gives students a unique opportunity to receive further instruction in problem areas. Coursework is designed to cater to students in each grade level as they prepare for high school in the upcoming years.
Online Middle School Mathematics
During middle school math, Acellus students build on to the concepts they learned in elementary school while preparing for high school math. The online math courses use Prism Diagnostics™ to ensure all students receive personalized learning experiences that are best suited for their individual needs. Struggling students receive any necessary assistance, while advanced students can accelerate through their courses.
Sixth through eighth grade math teaches Acellus Students the following topics:
- Ratios, rates, and proportions
- Fractions, decimals, and percents
- Decimal computation
- Functions and inequalities
- Area, volume, and surface areas
- Algebraic expressions
- Rational numbers and exponents
- Linear functions

In addition to the Grade 6, Grade 7, and Grade 8 Math courses, Acellus offers additional class options for supplementary lessons as well as an introduction into Pre-Algebra. Lastly, the FUNdamental Math course reviews mathematical concepts for students at the end of seventh or eighth grade or the beginning of ninth.
Online Middle School Language Arts and Reading
Acellus Language Arts and Reading curriculum for middle school students expands on the literary elements–such as grammar, spelling, and vocabulary–that they learned in elementary school. Students build their reading interpretation and writing skills as well as their ability to understand and comprehend various types of literature, including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
In addition to Grade 6, Grade 7, and Grade 8 Language Arts and Reading courses, there are two courses that review basic literary elements. These classes are designed for students who may be struggling with the online middle school English curriculum. The classes give students the assistance and confidence they need to excel in high school language arts and reading classes.
Online Middle School Science
Acellus middle school science curriculum teaches students about life, earth, and physical science. Grade 6 Science covers space and solar systems, electricity and magnetism, and Earth systems. Students also acquire a rudimentary understanding of physics.
After sixth grade, Acellus students can study Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science, as well as two courses that review basic science concepts. Acellus middle school science curriculum will set up students for success in their high school science classes.
Online Middle School Social Studies
Acellus online middle school offers history and social studies courses that cover a wide variety of topics. These include everything from early civilization to modern-day conflicts as well as the past and present governments, cultures, and economies of countries around the world.
In addition to Grade 6 and Grade 7 Social Studies classes, Acellus offers American History, Ancient Civilizations, Geography, and Personal Finance.
The middle school history and social studies curriculum gives students a foundation for comprehending current events and understanding how to approach social, cultural, and political situations.

Online Middle School Foreign Languages
Acellus offers foreign language classes in French, German, and Spanish.
For each language, students will learn greetings, numbers, vocabulary, verbs and verb conjugations, currency, and familiar nouns. Theses courses have units that discuss the culture of different countries that speak the languages. By the end of the course, students will be able to engage in basic conversation in the language that they study.

Online Middle School Health and Physical Education
Health and physical education are important at all ages, but they are particularly important during a student’s middle school years. Middle School Health focuses on physical fitness, nutrition, mental and emotional well-being, personal hygiene, disease, personal safety, and first aid. As children begin to act for themselves, taking care of their minds and bodies is crucial for their long-term health and wellbeing.
